The Dangote oil refinery in Nigeria has commenced fuel production. Dangote chairman Aliko Dangote made the announcement and said the refinery is a significant development for Nigeria’s petroleum industry and has the potential to boost the country’s refining capacity and reduce its dependence on fuel imports.
Dangote refinery is located at Lekki Free Zone in Lagos, Nigeria and covers an area of 250,000 hectares. The Pipeline Infrastructure at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is the largest in the world, with 1,100 kilometers to handle 3 Billion Standard Cubic Foot of gas per day. The Refinery alone has a 400MW Power Plant that is able to meet the total power requirement of Ibadan DisCo.

Dangote refinery
The Dangote refinery has a colossal capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (b/d). It aims to produce a range of refined products, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel. The refinery has started production of diesel and aviation fuel, with products expected to be in the market within the month, pending regulatory approvals.
According to Aliko Dangote, the refinery can meet 100% of Nigeria’s domestic demand for refined products. Additionally, it has the capability to produce surplus quantities of each product for export. The refinery has received six million barrels of crude oil so far, with the first delivery on December 12, 2023, and the sixth cargo delivered on January 8, 2024. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) owns a 20% stake in the refinery and agreed to supply 6 million barrels of crude oil as feedstock.
