American water treatment firm, Fluence Corporation Limited, has secured a US $3.2 million desalination project upgrade contract in Egypt.
Through its joint venture, the International Company for Water Services (IWS), Fluence signed the deal with a semi-government utility company to rehabilitate and upgrade a 12,000 m3/day seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The system is expected to be completed and operational by late summer 2021. The desalination project upgrade will utilise state of the art upgraded equipment implementing Fluence’s innovative technology to replace the ageing infrastructure of the current seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant at the site.
Fluence’s solution will incorporate a new energy recovery system, which will further improve efficiency. The system will provide potable water to several large resorts located in the popular tourist city of Sharm El Sheikh, with tourism a key and growing industry in Egypt, with 13.6 million visitors to the country in 2019.

Commenting on Fluence’s latest contract win, Managing Director & CEO Henry Charrabé said: “Securing this project further strengthens Fluence’s position as a growing and innovative provider of water treatment solutions in Egypt. Together with the US$7.6 million NIROBOXTM Smart Products Solution desalination plant ordered in October 2018, and our US$20 million order for the New Mansoura desalination plant awarded in March 2019, this latest contract further reinforces two key elements of Fluence’s growth strategy: a focus on desalination solutions for geographies urgently addressing water shortages, and providing innovative water solutions to help build sustainable communities.”
