The government of Kenya sealed a partnership agreement that aims to address water scarcity and improve food security in Kenya.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Alice Wahome who confirmed the report deal pointed out the agreement outlines plans to develop 10 water pans, 10 groundwater wells, and a 100-acre model farm in arid and semi-arid areas, as well as the Lake Victoria region.

Boosting water and agriculture
A central goal of the partnership is to significantly increase the irrigated land area in Kenya from 670,000 acres to 1.3 million acres within the next two years. This expansion of irrigated land is crucial for boosting agricultural productivity and food security.
Egypt will also provide a training program to Kenyan cadres in water resources and irrigation. The training programs will be provided by the African Center for Water and Climate Adaptation and the Water Resources Diploma at the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University. The Egyptian National Water Research Center will further collaborate with the Kenyan side on research related to water resources.
Egyptian Minister of Irrigation, Hani Sweilem, expressed that his country is looking forward to strengthening the bonds of cooperation and integration between the two countries in the field of water resources and adaptation to climate change.
