Green Partnership

It aims to advance the external dimension of the European Green Deal through action on the ground. Work will be developed across three main thematic axes: climate and energy. The green partnership will see development of electric mobility and renewable energies including; marine energy, green hydrogen, biomass, and desalination in line National Sustainable Development Strategy adopted in June 2017 by the Moroccan government.

The “Green Partnership” will be jointly steered by Mohamed Benchaâboun, the Moroccan Minister of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform, and his counterpart Leila Benali, in charge of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. Rabat and Brussels also plan to invest in mobility and sustainable waste management in order to reduce air pollution that endangers human health and biodiversity in Morocco.

“This agreement underscores the importance of developing mutually beneficial approaches to address the multiple challenges posed by the post-Covid-19 recovery by promoting a transition to more sustainable societies and consumption patterns over the long term. This is in line with the UN Agenda 2030 driven by the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” says the EU.
