New wastewater treatment plant to be built in Bouznika industrial zone, Morocco

A new wastewater treatment facility is set to be built in Bouznika industrial zone, Morocco. Millennium Challenge Account-Morocco Agency (MCA-Morocco), has awarded the British company, Biwater Holdings Limited, a turnkey contract to design and construct the facility.

This project forms a part of the investment from the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade, Green and Digital Economy (MCINET) for the development, revitalization, and management of the Bouznika industrial zone.

The New wastewater treatment facility, whose earthworks are already underway, will provide pre-treatment, biological treatment, and advanced tertiary treatment of the wastewater for reuse applications according to the Surrey, England-based company.

Protecting the environment

The Ministry, in collaboration with Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), is funding the extension of the Bouznika industrial zone. The objective of this project is to attract further investment and creating new employment opportunities for the industrial sector in the Casablanca-Settat region.

The new wastewater treatment facility will serve as another valuable reference for Biwater in providing wastewater infrastructure in the industrial sector in Morocco. It is also part of Moroco’s efforts to further protect the environment and to improve the quality of water discharged from treatment plants.

“We are proud of to be a part of this project to support the revitalization of the Bouznika industrial zone by delivering essential wastewater infrastructure. The company is continuing to expand its operations in the North African country, and under two new separate turnkey contracts, has commenced construction for new wastewater treatment plants for the coastal towns of Moulay Bousselham and Tarfaya,” said Yassine Laib, Biwater Country Manager for Morocco.
