A borehole project has been launched in Kirinyaga County. The project which was initiated by the Kirinyaga Central Member of Parliament at Kirinyaga Central Technical and Vocational College aim at addressing water scarcity issues and promoting overall development.
The primary beneficiaries of the project include Kingungu Primary School, the Vocational Training College, and the surrounding community. The borehole will allow the school to save money spent on buying water, which can be redirected to other development projects.

Addressing water challenges
“The borehole will alleviate the water scarcity issues and provide a reliable water supply for drinking, sanitation, and other college activities. Kiangungu is on the lower side of Kirinyaga Central Constituency, an area that experiences drought and does not have rivers. It will also benefit the community by ensuring access to clean water, reducing the burden on existing water sources, and promoting hygiene practices, “said the Member of Parliament.
Deputy Principal John Ngoroge appreciated the work of Kirinyaga Central NG-CDF for coming up with the project, saying the school has been having hard times since they did not have enough water to be used by the students and to run school activities.
“As a vocational training school, we have been experiencing challenges, especially when it comes to some courses like masonry and hairdressing courses, which require a lot of water, and we had no option but to buy with the scarce resources we have. We are also grateful as a school since, after the compilation of the borehole, we will be able to save the money we were using on buying water that helped with other development projects,” he said.
