Water Mission receives US $1M grant for water projects in Uganda, Tanzania

Water Mission has been awarded a US $1M grant by The Coca-Cola Foundation that will be used to address the critical issue of water scarcity in Uganda and Tanzania.

The two organisation will collaborate and develop safe water and sanitation infrastructure projects in the Luuka and Buyende Districts in Uganda and the Bahi and Chamwino Districts in Tanzania over the next two years.

The impact of the lack of safe water in these districts is described, including its effects on children’s education and the challenges faced by parents in providing for their families. The grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation is expected to accelerate Water Mission’s safe water project work, allowing the organization to provide sustainable solutions for communities, refugee camps, and disaster areas in Uganda and Tanzania.

Sustainable water solutions

George Greene IV, CEO and President of Water Mission, expressed gratitude for The Coca-Cola Foundation’s trust and emphasized that the grant would contribute to maximum impact through their safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions. Water Mission has a presence in both Uganda and Tanzania, with local staff working on providing sustainable water solutions to those in need.

Saadia Madsbjerg, President of The Coca-Cola Foundation, expressed the foundation’s commitment to bringing safe water to water-stressed communities globally. The initiative aims to transform communities by providing safe water access, thereby improving health, creating opportunities, and breaking the cycle of poverty.
