SDX Energy eyes gas exploration in Morocco

SDX Energy is eyeing gas exploration in Morocco. The move follows a successful data reprocessing project. The company has pinpointed 47 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of promising gas potential and identified two new drilling targets, KSR-22 and OLME-A, with combined unrisked volumes of 3 Bcf.

As SDX moves forward, it is engaging in talks with the Moroccan government and ONHYM to connect an unutilized gas well, which could unlock immediate revenue opportunities. The company plans to launch a tender for 150 km² of 3D seismic data acquisition in early 2025, aiming to uncover new gas reservoirs.

Having already completed the reprocessing of over 650 km² of 3D seismic data—entrusted to Absolute Imaging—SDX has significantly enhanced structural resolution and revealed multiple gas-rich amplitude clusters. Further refinement of the gas indicators through AVO inversion analysis is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

In addition, SDX Energy is in advanced talks with two international partners to accelerate gas exploration and production in Morocco. With increasing gas demand from local industries, the company is also pursuing financing to support its expanded drilling campaign, which is set to begin in Q4 2024. SDX remains the only independent gas producer in Morocco and continues to collaborate with ONHYM to secure the country’s industrial gas supply.
