The governments of Angola and the Dominican Republic have announced plans to collaborate in the field of oil and gas development.
The report was revealed during a meeting between Angola’s Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, María Cándida Pereira Teizeira, and the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Eng. Antonio Almonte.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Mines in Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. The ministerial delegation from the Dominican Republic included Vice Minister of Energy Rafael Gómez, as well as Ministerial Executives Nisael Dirocié, Helen Pérez, and Carolina Sánchez. Ambassador Teizeira was accompanied by the First Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs, Helio Dos Santos, along with a delegation that included press and military attachés.

Reducing dependence on imports
The Dominican Republic, heavily reliant on fuel imports, expressed interest in leveraging Angola’s position as the largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa and its extensive mining experience to enhance its production and refining capabilities.
Ambassador Teizeira emphasized that Angola’s resources could be valuable to the Dominican Republic, offering an opportunity to reduce its dependence on imports while generating much-needed income for Angola’s energy industry.
Minister Almonte welcomed the ambassador’s interest in strengthening ties between the two countries and exploring collaboration in energy, hydrocarbons, and mining. Angola’s expertise in mining diamonds, cobalt, manganese, and other minerals essential to modern industries was noted as a potential area of cooperation.
