The Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) in Kenya is launching a call for tenders to select a consultant for the implementation of the sewage sludge recovery project at the Dandora Estate water treatment plant.
The project aims to improve the supply of electricity to Dandora by utilizing sewage sludge. The selected consultancy firm will be responsible for reviewing the feasibility study, conducting a detailed assessment of the current state of the wastewater treatment plant, preparing designs and technical specifications, estimating project costs, and preparing tender documentation for the energy recovery and sludge management facility.

Task ahead
In addition, the consultant will be required to carry out an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the project, considering national and international regulations and standards. The consultancy firm will have 12 months to complete these tasks and will receive financial support from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Furthermore, the consultant will need to undertake financial and economic modeling for the proposed project activities, including analyzing different business models for implementation, operation, and maintenance costs.
The consultant’s input will be crucial in preparing full proposals for the funding required to implement the “Wastewater Energy Recovery and Sludge Management Project at Dandora Estate Sewage Treatment Works.” Interested consultancies should submit their expressions of interest by the deadline of 29 June 2023 to be considered for the project.
