TotalEnergies discovers oil and gas in Ntokon field in Nigeria

TotalEnergies, a French oil major, has announced the discovery of oil and gas in the Ntokon field, located in the OML102 block offshore Nigeria.

The Ntokon-1AX discovery well encountered 38 meters of net oil pay and 15 meters of net gas pay, while the side-track Ntokon-1G1 encountered 73 meters of net oil pay in high-quality reservoirs.

During testing, the Ntokon-1G1 well achieved a successful production rate of approximately 5,000 barrels per day of 40° API oil. The Ntokon field is situated 20 kilometers away from the Ofon field facilities on OML102, and TotalEnergies plans to develop it by connecting it to the existing facilities at Ofon through a tie-back.

Nicolas Terraz, the President of Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, expressed optimism about the discovery, stating that it offers promising potential for a new tie-back development. He also emphasized that this success, along with the earlier start-up of the Ikike tie-back project on OML99 in 2022, highlights the value creation potential of nearby exploration within TotalEnergies’ low-cost, low-emission strategy. TotalEnergies operates the OML102 block with a 40% interest, while NNPC Ltd holds the remaining 60% as a partner.
