Egypt has taken another step toward expanding its renewable energy capacity after the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Alcazar Energy for the development of a 407 MW Zafarana wind project in the Zafarana region.
The agreement was signed by EETC Chairwoman Mona Rezk and Mohamed Zidan, Senior Director of Alcazar Energy in Egypt. The project will be developed by the renewable energy investment firm as part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to increase private sector participation in the country’s clean energy sector.
According to EETC, the wind farm is expected to begin commercial operations in 2028 and will generate enough electricity to power approximately 775,000 households. The project is also expected to make a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting Egypt’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

Strategy
Speaking after the signing, Rezk said the project supports EETC’s broader strategy to strengthen and modernize Egypt’s national electricity transmission network. She noted that upgrading the grid is essential to integrating increasing volumes of renewable energy while ensuring reliable and efficient power delivery to consumers across the country.
She added that partnerships with private investors remain a key component of Egypt’s renewable energy programme and are critical to improving energy security and meeting the country’s long-term sustainability objectives. The project comes as Egypt accelerates its clean energy ambitions under the updated Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy (ISES), which now targets renewable sources to account for 45% of the country’s installed electricity generation capacity by 2030, five years earlier than the previous 2035 goal.
The latest agreement further strengthens Alcazar Energy’s footprint in Egypt’s renewable energy market. Earlier this year, the company secured a US $420M contract to operate, maintain and modernize the 580-MW Gabal El-Zeit wind farm on the Red Sea coast, a project aimed at improving the performance of one of the country’s largest wind power facilities while supporting the government’s broader energy transition agenda.
