Morocco to host 7th SITeau on water and sanitation in June 2022

Morocco is set to host the seventh edition of the International Water and Sanitation Technology Exhibition (SITeau).

The event organised by Field Attitude and its partners will bring together national and international players concerned with water, sanitation and energy issues. It will be held in Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, from 7 to 9 June 2022.

For this seventh edition, discussions will revolve around current issues, in particular access to water in the Cherifian Kingdom in a context marked by the vulnerability of the water table and the absence of rainfall.

Innovative solutions

Discussions should lead to innovative solutions, methodologies and improved governance scenarios by considering public approaches and their regulatory and fiscal levers. Currently, Morocco is focusing on water rationalisation and the development of non-conventional resources to secure its water supply.

To date, Morocco has only 500 m3 of drinking water per inhabitant per year, compared to 2,500 m3 in 1960 according to the United Nations (UN). This is below the recommended 1,000 m3 of water per capita per year. The World Resources Institute (WRI), an American environmental organisation, indicates that the kingdom will reach an extremely high level of water stress by 2040, with the loss of 80% of its water resources. And this problem is common to other African countries, notably in the Sahel, the Horn of Africa and Southern Africa.

National and international experts at SITeau will address these issues, knowing that access to sanitation and electricity are also guarantees of sustainable development. Behavioural changes in production, recovery and consumption patterns should also be considered, according to a recent press release from Field Attitude, which is organising the SITeau in collaboration with its partners.
