Plastic valves manufacturer, Asahi, acquires its distributor company

Thermoplastic valves manufacturer, Asahi Yukizai, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of plastic Valves, Pipes & Gaskets, has acquired its Southern Africa distributor, Celtech Pipe Systems.

Celtech Pipe Systems has been promoting and servicing the Asahi range of products for over thirty years. Asahi Yukizai’s African outfit registered under the brand name, Asahi Africa, trading as Celtech Pipe Systems, will reach a wider area in Southern African region, servicing a bigger clientele base mainly in industrial, mining and water works.

Perfectly timed
Asahi’s acquisition of Celtech has been concluded at a perfect time. Presently, corrosion of valves and pipes is a common challenge for organisations in the mining and water treatment businesses, costing tens, if not hundreds, of million dollars in lost revenue due to downtime of critical processes.

The Japanese company is confident that, Celtech, backed by Asahi Yukizai, is now better equipped to help industry mitigate the problem of pipe corrosion with a reliable supply of thermoplastic pipes and valves.

Thermoplastic materials are particularly suited to acid, effluent and water, which require very reliable non–corrosive fluid handling products.

Medium-term view
Asahi Yukizai’s acquisition of Celtech – a manufacturer purchasing a distributor – is the first of its kind in Southern Africa. At a time when some multinationals are divesting from the African region, Asahi Yukizai’s move is unprecedented. Obviously, the Japanese thermoplastic giant has taken a medium-term view, optimistic about economic growth in the Southern African region beyond COVID-19, more especially in mining and water works. The management of Asahi Yukizai are very excitedCeltech Pipe Systems has been promoting and servicing the Asahi range of products for over thirty years with the acquisition, they believe there will great progress made.

Asahi Yukizai has been particularly successful in supplying large thermoplastic bore butterfly Valves (800 mm) to the Middle East for Desalination Plant operation. Asahi Africa will have main office and stock holding, situated in Boksburg to service the Southern African region, with distributors based in regional areas. There will be a dedicated team with extensive expertise in a wide range of areas and manufacturing a full range of products.
