Sulzer Inks 8-Year Aramco Pump Supply & Aftermarket Agreement

Swiss fluid engineering major Sulzer has finalized a long-term Corporate Procurement Agreement (CPA) with global energy leader Aramco, cementing an eight-year strategic partnership (five years firm plus a three-year extension option) for the supply of centrifugal pumps, spare parts, and comprehensive aftermarket services.

The deal covers Aramco’s pump fleet across its upstream, midstream, and downstream operations worldwide. For Africa’s expanding energy and industrial sectors—where pump reliability directly impacts production uptime—the agreement signals a wider industry shift toward multi-year, service-integrated supply frameworks.

Aftermarket Support & Supply Chain Resilience

Under the CPA, Sulzer will provide full lifecycle aftermarket support, including predictive maintenance, emergency repairs, and original spare parts logistics. This structure is designed to maximize asset performance and reduce unplanned downtime across Aramco’s critical rotating equipment fleet.

“We are immensely proud to deepen our collaboration with Aramco,” said Alex Myers, Regional President of India, Middle East & CIS (INMEC) at Sulzer’s Services division. *“This CPA is a testament to our shared vision of excellence. The combination of Sulzer’s 190-years of engineering heritage with Aramco’s global leadership helps us to play an important role in the long-term success of the region’s energy sector.”*

Sulaiman M. Al Rubaian, Aramco’s Senior Vice President of Procurement & Supply Chain Management, added: “We are delighted to advance our collaboration with Sulzer. This CPA helps to strengthen the resiliency of our supply chain, support Aramco’s capital projects, and ensure we maintain the reliability and efficiency of our pump assets across our operations.”

13,000+ sqm Regional Hub Enables Rapid Response

A key differentiator enabling this agreement is Sulzer’s expanded physical footprint in Saudi Arabia. In 2023, the company transformed its Riyadh facility into a large-scale industrial service center, which will serve as the operational backbone for the Aramco contract—and is positioned to support neighboring markets, including parts of North and East Africa.

The Riyadh hub features:

  • 13,000+ square meters of workshop and manufacturing space, operational 24/7 for emergency responses.
  • Advanced repair capabilities for all pump types as well as steam turbines, compressors, and blowers.
  • Integrated warehouse & logistics for rapid spare parts availability.

For African operators and EPC contractors, Sulzer’s expanded regional presence means shorter lead times for pump repairs and parts—a critical advantage for remote sites or high-volume production environments.

What This Means for Africa’s Pump Market

While the direct contract is with Aramco, the commercial model—emphasizing long-term availability, localized service hubs, and integrated aftermarket support—sets a benchmark that African national oil companies, private refiners, and water utilities are likely to follow.

Across the continent, from Nigeria’s Dangote refinery to Mozambique’s LNG corridors and Egypt’s petrochemical complexes, the demand for predictable pump lifecycle management is growing. Sulzer’s 8-year commitment to Aramco demonstrates that major energy players now prioritize:

  • Multi-year strategic sourcing over transactional purchasing.
  • Local or regional service centers to cut logistics delays.
  • Original spare parts integration to extend asset life.
