The Water and Sanitation Providers Association (WASPA) has appointed Maureen Oginya as its new Commercial Manager, reinforcing the association’s commitment to strengthening its commercial operations and delivering greater value to water service providers across Kenya.
Oginya brings more than a decade of experience in commercial management and business development within Kenya’s water sector. Her appointment comes at a time when utilities are increasingly seeking innovative business models, strategic partnerships and digital solutions to improve operational efficiency and financial sustainability.
Extensive experience in Kenya’s water sector
Before joining WASPA, Oginya served as Regional Sales Manager and Partner Relationship Manager for Kenya and Tanzania at CityTaps, where she worked closely with water utilities to promote innovative customer management and smart metering solutions.
Earlier in her career, she was the Business Segment Manager at Danco Capital Ltd., where she built extensive expertise in commercial growth, strategic partnerships, smart metering technologies, non-revenue water reduction, utility digitisation and sustainable business development.
Her experience spans collaboration with Water Service Providers (WSPs), development partners, technology providers and private sector stakeholders to implement practical solutions that enhance utility performance across East Africa.
Strong academic and leadership foundation
Oginya holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Management and Organizational Development. The combination of academic advancement and industry experience positions her well to support WASPA’s long-term strategic objectives.
Throughout her career, she has developed a reputation for building partnerships that promote innovation, improve operational performance and support sustainable growth within the water sector.

Leading WASPA’s commercial transformation
In her new position, Oginya will lead the operationalisation of WASPA’s commercial wing. Her responsibilities will include developing innovative products and services, expanding strategic partnerships and establishing sustainable revenue streams that enhance value for WASPA members while strengthening the association’s financial sustainability.
The role is expected to support WASPA’s broader mission of empowering water utilities through knowledge sharing, collaboration and commercially viable solutions that improve service delivery.
As the water sector continues to embrace digital transformation, utility efficiency and customer-centric service models, commercial leadership will play an increasingly important role in helping utilities respond to evolving operational and financial challenges.
