The government of Zambia has announced plans to develop a 118MW solar power plant in Sinazongwe District, Southern Province. The development follows a formalized deal sealed with Goldenray Energy Limited.
The implementation agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary for Electricity Arnold Simwaba on behalf of the government, while Goldenray Energy was represented by its Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ajit Kumar Mishra. The company is registered in Zambia and receives financial backing from an investment fund based in Dubai.

Construction and development activities are expected to progress toward commissioning by early 2027, when the facility is projected to begin feeding electricity into the national grid. The project is set to expand Zambia’s generation capacity, support the transition toward renewable energy, and enhance long-term energy security.
Zambia’s solar industry continues to draw attention from regional and international investors. Recently, UAE-based SGC Investment LLC announced intentions to invest in the rollout of 500 MW of additional solar capacity. The proposal was presented during discussions with Energy Minister Makozo Chikote.
Earlier this year, the government also entered into a memorandum of understanding with Chinese firms Longi Solar Technology and Sino Green Technology to collaborate on solar developments targeting a combined capacity of up to 1,000 MW. The Sinazongwe solar initiative forms part of Zambia’s broader strategy to diversify its energy mix, reduce dependence on hydropower, and build resilience against climate-related power supply disruptions.
