Kenya has completed a mega water project that will serve the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Naivasha. The US $8.5 million project is expected to pump at least eight million litres of water daily to the industrial park and the inland container depot which will spur Naivasha into a major economic hub.
The piping from the main water reservoir in Naivasha is complete.Water Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, confirmed that the project is about 98 percent complete and it involves pumping water from the Naivasha borehole to the main tank at Longonot and onward to the inland container depot, construction of a 4,000-metre-cube reinforced concrete tank and gravity mains from the main tank at Longonot to the elevated tanks at the industrial park, among other things.
She described the project as a game-changer, noting that the park is one of the government’s major projects. “We are happy to report that water supply to businesses is guaranteed.”
Locals are set to benefit from the project through establishment of water kiosk along the pipeline. They will access the commodity at subsidised rates.

The Naivasha Special Economic Zone has attracted more than 50 investors who have shown interest in setting up large scale businesses on the 50 acres hub.
According to the Government of Kenya, the Special Economic Zone will comprise residential areas, commercial zones, hotels, shopping malls, light industries and petrol stations.
Businesses will enjoy access to cheap electricity from the Olkaria geothermal power plant, infrastructure that will facilitate a wide range of activities such as storage, export and re-export, cheap railway transport to and from Mombasa port and special taxes in line with provisions of the Fiscal Incentives Act, 2015.
K Pipes and Fitting Centre Ltd is among the potential investors who have shown interest in expanding their business to Naivasha.
