Africa invited to USADF Off-Grid Energy Challenge

The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) is excited to request proposals for the USADF Off-Grid Energy Challenge.

The USADF Off-Grid Energy Challenge is a funding opportunity designed to support African-owned and -managed companies and organizations in providing off-grid energy solutions to unserved and underserved communities.

Requirements

The challenge focuses on various project categories, including Agriculture-Energy Nexus, Healthcare-Energy Nexus, Women-in-Energy, Other Energy Nexus, Mini- and Micro-grids, Productive Use, Stand-alone and Home Systems, and Innovations.

Applicants must be African-owned and managed companies or organizations, including non-profit and not-for-profit entities. All owners, shareholders, members of the board, and senior management must be citizens of a sub-Saharan African country.

Applicants need to be legally registered in Africa. The applying entity must demonstrate the capacity to track and manage project resources and operate in good standing with local governments. The applying entity must not be government-owned, operated, or affiliated in any way.

Applicants are encouraged to carefully review and adhere to the eligibility criteria and application requirements to increase their chances of being considered for the USADF Off-Grid Energy Challenge. Winners will receive a grant capital up to US$250,000 from USADF and have access to intensive local technical assistance and governance support.

The challenge has been designed to achieve; Increase electric power generation to unserved and underserved African communities, expand energy access through off-grid solutions and increase women participation in the energy sector. Application deadline is January 2024.
