The government of Chad through the Ministry of Water and Sanitation has launched call of tender to rehabilitate and extend the N’Djamena water network.
The project aims to increase the access to drinking water from 30-45% (between 2019 and 2021) to 65% by the year 2025. The entire project, requires an investment of US $50M and the financing is supported by entities like the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Union (EU), and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
The project is expected to be completed within five years from the commencement of work on the various sites. It will be divided into different lots. This is the second call for tender for the second lot. lot 1, tender closed on 1 August 2023.

Scope of work
Interested companies have until September 12, 2023, to submit their applications. The selected company for this lot will be responsible for several tasks, including; rehabilitating 33 boreholes in N’Djamena, upgrading 12 water towers with capacities ranging from 50 m3 to 2,000 m3,constructing two new water towers with a projected capacity of 2,000 m3 each and drilling a new borehole to tap into Pliocene aquifers, which are deep aquifers naturally isolated from the surface.
The project’s first lot involves various tasks as well, such as building three boreholes, a 6,000 m3 water storage tank, a water recovery station with pumps, supply pipes, electrical installations, and chlorination stations. These installations will not only enhance water supply within N’Djamena’s urban area but also extend the supply to its peri-urban zone.
