Chad is set to receive a sum of US $44M to fund water and sanitation projects. The funds granted as a loan by African Development Bank (AfDB) is set to be will be allocated to two main projects: the second phase of the rural and semi-urban drinking water supply and sanitation program (PAEPA SU-MR) and the Nubian sandstone aquifer development project for climate change resilience (NUREC).
The rural and semi-urban drinking water supply and sanitation program aligns with the sixth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG6), which aims to achieve universal access to water and sanitation services, which is crucial for improving public health and overall well-being.

Scope of work
The project involves construction of agricultural boreholes, drinking water mini-adductions, production boreholes, human-powered pumps, hydraulic production units, rehabilitation of water supply systems, and development of agricultural gardens for small-scale irrigation by women’s groups. Additionally, the sanitation component will involve the installation of garbage bins and development of final landfill sites. This phase will focus on six provinces including; Mandoul, Mayo Kebbi East, Mayo Kebbi West, Ennedi East, Salamat, and Sila.
On the other hand the Nubian sandstone aquifer development project for climate change resilience (NUREC) aims to exploit the Nubian sandstone aquifers in the Ennedi and Borkou regions to improve access to water, thereby reducing the risks associated with water-borne diseases. The project will involve the construction of large-diameter boreholes, monitoring piezometers, and measures to enhance resilience to climate change effects in the project areas.
