The government of Egypt has awarded a contract for the development of the Kafr Abu Zohr wastewater plant in Alexandria.
The Kafr Abu Zohr wastewater treatment plant, along with other initiatives, represents a crucial investment by the Egyptian government and Elsewedy Electric in improving wastewater services, safeguarding the environment, and promoting sustainable development in the country.
Egyptian company Elsewedy Electric Environmental Solutions who won the contract has been tasked in comprehensive design, equipment supply, installation, civil engineering works, and turnkey commissioning of the wastewater treatment plant.
Sustainable Rural Sanitation Services Programme
The capacity of treating 60,000 m3 of effluent daily in the Alexandria governorate is a substantial contribution to mitigating water pollution risks that affect freshwater resources, aquatic biodiversity, and human health.
This effort aligns with the broader goal of the Egyptian government, as part of the Sustainable Rural Sanitation Services Programme (SRSSP), to enhance liquid sanitation in numerous villages across multiple governorates. The Houd Negaih wastewater treatment plant, with a capacity of 6,000 m3 per day, is another example of Elsewedy Electric’s involvement in advancing sanitation infrastructure in the region.
Elsewedy Electric, initially established in 1938 with a focus on supplying energy solutions, has diversified its expertise into various sectors, including water and wastewater. The company’s success in securing contracts for major projects underscores its commitment to contributing to sustainable development.
Apart from the wastewater treatment plants, Elsewedy Electric’s involvement in building a water pump manufacturing center in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) further demonstrates its expanding role in addressing water-related challenges. The subsidiary, Elsewedy Industrial Development, is tasked with implementing this project, showcasing the company’s multi-faceted approach to water management.
