Egypt has unveiled a US $200M solar manufacturing complex in the Ain Sokhna industrial zone. The project marks a major stride in the country’s efforts to localize clean energy technologies and position itself as a regional leader in green industrial development.

The facility is being developed by Chinese firm Sunrev Solar under the TEDA–Egypt industrial framework and will be constructed over an area of 200,000 square meters in two phases. The first phase, valued at US $90M, includes the construction of two manufacturing plants with a combined production capacity of 2GW for solar cells and 2 GW for solar modules.

The second phase, involving an investment of US $110M, will focus on the local production of key raw materials, including silicon ingots and wafers. This phase will also aim to increase the output capacity of solar cells and modules to support Egypt’s growing clean energy demand.

Senior government and industry officials attended the launch ceremony, including Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Industry and Transport Lt. Gen. Kamel El-Wazir, and representatives from SCZONE and TEDA. The signing of the project agreement was seen as a milestone in Egypt’s push for sustainable industrialization.

SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien described the project as one of the most significant renewable energy investments in the zone to date, emphasizing its role in supporting Egypt’s clean energy transition. He noted that the complex is expected to create more than 1,800 direct jobs and thousands of indirect employment opportunities.

Sunrev Solar’s Managing Director He Fei stated that Egypt was selected as the site for the complex due to its strategic vision for sustainability and its commitment to energy localization. He also affirmed that the company would bring its most advanced solar technologies to the country.

The project is set to contribute meaningfully to Egypt’s long-term goal of reducing reliance on imported solar components while enhancing industrial integration and boosting economic development through renewable energy.
