Helena Thybell Appointed as New Executive Director of SIWI

Stockholm, Sweden – The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) has announced the appointment of Helena Thybell as its new Executive Director, effective March 17, 2025. Thybell, formerly the CEO of Save the Children Sweden, brings a wealth of experience in strategic leadership, organizational transformation, and sustainability.

In a statement, Thybell expressed her enthusiasm for joining SIWI, highlighting the importance of water and climate issues in today’s world.

Her core expertise includes driving organizational capability, fostering leadership, and delivering results in complex and uncertain environments.

SIWI Board Welcomes Thybell’s Leadership

SIWI’s Board of Directors has welcomed Thybell’s appointment, emphasizing her ability to guide the organization through evolving global challenges in water governance and climate resilience.

Tom Panella, Chair of SIWI, praised Thybell’s leadership skills and deep understanding of complex global issues.

Thybell will take over from Caroline Andersson, who has served as Acting Executive Director since September 2024.
