The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) and Adani Energy Solutions Limited have sealed a US $736M power deal.
Energy Cabinet Secretary, Opiyo Wandayi confirmed the report and said the deal follows a successful negotiation process that had been in progress for the past four months. It represents a significant step in Kenya’s efforts to address its power infrastructure challenges.
Under the agreement, Adani will build and operate four major electricity transmission lines and two substations for 30 years before transferring the assets back to Kenya. The project aims to enhance the country’s national grid, reduce persistent power blackouts, and support Kenya’s economic growth.

Scope of work
The lines to be developed include: 400kV (Double-Circuit) Gilgil-Thika-Malaa-Konza Line: 208.73 km, 220kV Rongai-Keringet-Chemosit Line: 99.98 km 132kV Menengai-Ol Kalou-Rumuru Line: 89.88 km, 400/220kV substation at Lessos and 132/33kV substation at Thurdibuoro
The project will be funded through a mix of debt and equity raised by the Project Company and repaid over the 30-year period. Adani Energy Solutions will manage the infrastructure for the duration, ensuring long-term sustainability and efficiency before handing it back to KETRACO. In addition to improving the national grid, the initiative is expected to create jobs and boost economic activity across the country.
