Morocco has announced plans to develop three regasification plants as a strategic move towards diversifying its energy sources and promoting cleaner energy alternatives.
By focusing on natural gas and renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and green hydrogen, the country aims to reduce reliance on more polluting sources and achieve a more sustainable energy mix.

The projects will be set up Nador and the other two on the Atlantic side of the country. The first regasification stations will become operational in 2027 after “a strategic memorandum of understanding between representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development” was initialled in March. The agreement involves various official entities such as the National Ports Agency (ANP), the National Office of Electricity and Water (ONEE), the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), the port of Nador West Med and Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM).
Morocco’s approach aligns with global efforts to transition towards cleaner energy sources and underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. The commitment to environmental protection is evident not only through infrastructure projects like regasification plants but also through broader initiatives to boost renewable energy. Minister Leila Benali’s target of having 52% of the national energy mix sourced from renewables by 2030 is ambitious and demonstrates Morocco’s dedication to mitigating climate change.
