Nigeria, Angola partner to boost water, electricity

The governments of Nigeria and Angola formalized a collaboration to address critical infrastructure needs in both countries.

The partnership aims to benefit both nations, with a focus on providing potable water, enhancing irrigation farming, and advancing economic development. Both nations will exchange technical expertise and knowledge in pivotal sectors for successful implementation of projects related to water supply and electricity generation.

Enhancing bilateral relations 

The Angolan Ambassador, Dr Jose Bamoquina highlighted Angola’s potential to export electricity to other countries. This indicates a strategic vision to leverage Angola’s resources for regional benefit and economic development.

There are plans for the expansion and efficient utilization of six major dams with Nigeria’s technical expertise. This underscores the importance of infrastructure development and management in achieving sustainable water and energy resources.

The collaboration deepens existing bilateral relations between Nigeria and Angola. Both countries are members of important international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The countries are also well endowed with natural resources, especially oil and gas, which are significant sources of revenue. As major producers of crude oil in Africa, they have high expectations placed on them as regional leaders.

“Nigeria is very keen to support Angola’s domestic and foreign aspirations and the country’s overall development, and we expect reciprocity in this regard. Indeed, the progress of one is the progress of all,” said, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
