The government of Nigeria has announced a partnership with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) that aims at creating opportunities for the private sector to play a leading role in the water resources and sanitation sector.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev confirmed the report and commended NESG) for its contributions to the development of Nigeria. He noted that the partnership aims to advance Nigeria’s development agenda, in line with the government’s renewed hope agenda.

Strategic commitments
On his part, Dr. Tayo Aduloju, the CEO of NESG, highlighted six fundamental principles that serve as the basis for a modern economy. These principles include democracy, national interest governance, the rule of law, enabling business environment, private sector commitment, and free enterprise.
NESG is recognized for its pivotal role in driving transformation in Nigeria. Some of the achievements mentioned include conceptualizing the GSM (mobile phone) industry, pension reform, liberalizing the maritime sector, and contributing to various development plans.
Dr. Aduloju expressed NESG’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to implement strategic commitments. This collaboration aims to attract substantial international investments and leverage Nigeria’s water resources for economic development.
Gabriel Ekanem, Thematic Head for Water and Sanitation under the Infrastructure Policy Commission of NESG, highlighted previous collaborations with the ministry. These collaborations encompassed areas such as water supply, data collection, developing a water resources master plan, and establishing regulatory frameworks for water resources management.
