The national power grid in Nigeria has been fully restored. Mrs Ndidi Mbah, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)’s General Manager Public Affairs confirmed the report and said the company initiated immediate restoration of the affected part of the grid.
The national power grid experienced a collapse, resulting in a significant drop in power supply from 2,658MW to 59.90MW. Only two power plants, Ibom Power (31MW) and Azura IPP (28MW), remained operational on the grid. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) attributed the power outage to a system failure in the national grid.

Electricity rate in Nigeria
TCN began with initiating slow recovery process, with data from the Independent National System Operator showing a gradual increase in power supply. By 5 pm, the grid had risen to 525.7MW, with Azura generating 353MW, Egbin Power generating 142MW, and Ibom Power at 30.7MW.
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, held meetings with top management teams of power generating and distribution companies to address the blackout issues. The Minister also discussed the issue of indebtedness to GenCos by the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) as part of efforts to resolve liquidity challenges in the sector.
Nigeria has 23 power generating plants connected to the national grid with the capacity to generate 11,165.4 MW of electricity. These plants are managed by generation companies (GenCos), independent power providers, and Niger Delta Holding Company. The country generates most of its power through thermal and hydro.
