Werner Pumps has supplied Mogale City Local Municipality with a new water recycling vacuum truck to support stormwater drain maintenance, helping the municipality address drainage challenges while reducing water consumption and operating costs.
Unlike conventional vacuum trucks, the unit can recycle water during operation, reducing the need for frequent fresh-water refilling. This enables maintenance crews to work for longer periods with fewer interruptions, improving operational efficiency during drainage cleaning activities.
The technology comes as Mogale City faces significant maintenance requirements across both its stormwater and wastewater infrastructure. In response to these challenges, the municipality is already considering adding two additional water recycling units to its fleet for wastewater applications.
“For municipalities under pressure to maintain critical infrastructure while managing costs and conserving water, recycling technology offers a practical solution,” says George Jolly, Sales Manager at Werner Pumps.
“Importantly, these units are also built locally, with the support and after-sales service that municipalities need to keep them working effectively.”
The new equipment combines water recycling with high-pressure drain cleaning and vacuum extraction, allowing operators to remove accumulated sediment, debris and other blockages from stormwater infrastructure.
By recovering and reusing water during the cleaning process, the technology can reduce dependence on fresh-water supplies while supporting longer and more productive maintenance cycles.
For municipalities, the benefits extend beyond water conservation. Reduced refilling requirements can help limit downtime, improve vehicle utilisation and lower some operating costs associated with repeated water replenishment.
The addition of recycling technology also reflects a wider shift towards more resource-efficient municipal maintenance equipment. As cities manage ageing drainage networks and increasing pressure on water resources, equipment capable of combining productivity with lower water consumption is becoming increasingly relevant.
Werner Pumps’ locally manufactured recycling units further provide municipalities with access to local technical expertise and after-sales support. This can be particularly important for specialised equipment that operates in demanding environments and requires regular maintenance to remain productive.
Mogale City’s consideration of additional units for wastewater applications could also broaden the role of water recycling technology across its municipal infrastructure operations.
