Togo gains membership to the Global Green Growth Institute

Togo has joined 47 other member countries, including seven other African nations to the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) after a three-year wait. The GGGI, established in 2010, focuses on accelerating the global ecological transition.

The GGGI’s mission is to support countries in achieving a resilient, low-carbon world that promotes inclusive and sustainable growth. The institution provides technical and financial support to its member countries to help them adopt and implement green growth plans. For Togo, this support is expected to assist in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

GGGI’s services

The GGGI’s services include capacity building, particularly in coaching the private sector, with the ultimate goal of encouraging sober and profitable investments. In return, Togo will need to integrate ecological requirements into its national public policies. This reflects a commitment to aligning development goals with environmentally sustainable practices.

“Together, we embrace a shared vision of a resilient, low-carbon (CO2) world that promotes strong, inclusive and sustainable growth for all,” says the GGGI.

The announcement also mentions other African countries currently being assessed for membership, including Comoros, Ghana, Benin, Morocco, Mozambique, Sudan, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Madagascar. If accepted, these countries would join the GGGI in working towards a more sustainable and green future.
