US $156M secured to expand clean water access in Côte d'Ivoire

Deutsche Bank has secured a US $156M financing facility to support Côte d’Ivoire’s “Eau pour Tous” (Water for All) initiative, aimed at significantly expanding access to clean drinking water and advancing sustainable development goals.

Structured as an export credit facility, the funding will enable the Ivorian government to implement water infrastructure projects led by the Mitrelli Group. A portion of the loan is backed by Atradius Dutch State Business N.V., the Netherlands’ export credit agency, which helps mitigate financial risks and supports critical development in emerging markets.

Water for All programme

Launched in 2017, the Water for All programme is a national initiative striving to provide safe drinking water to 97% of the population by 2025. This financing supports the first phase, which includes the construction of 95 urban hydraulic systems. These systems—featuring water towers and extended networks—will bring clean water closer to underserved and rural communities.

The initiative is expected to deliver several key benefits: Improved public health by reducing waterborne diseases, increased economic productivity, particularly for women and children, who often spend hours fetching water, enhanced quality of life for communities, and greater resilience through a stable and reliable water supply.

“This financing exemplifies Deutsche Bank’s commitment to supporting essential infrastructure that improves lives. By helping Côte d’Ivoire expand access to clean water, we contribute to healthier communities and long-term economic development,” said Alarik d’Ornhjelm, Head of Structured Trade & Export Finance for the Middle East and Africa.
