Vestas, a Danish wind turbine manufacturer has been awarded contract to construct a 108MW wind power plant in South Africa.
The project is being developed by independent power producer (IPP) Red Rocket. Additionally, Vestas has signed a 15-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) agreement with Red Rocket as part of the contract.
The Witberg wind farm, where Vestas will install 24 wind turbines, is set to be the largest wind farm generating power for the private sector in South Africa. Red Rocket, the project developer, has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Sibanye-Stillwater, a South African mining company, to supply electricity for 15 years starting from the farm’s commissioning date in the first quarter of 2025.
