Vinci Energies has announced it has won contract in Senegal. The subsidiary of the French group Vinci, revealed it has been tasked with the construction of electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure throughout the country.
The project aligns with Senegalese government’s objective which is to improve electricity transmission capacity and achieve universal access to electricity by 2026. According to the World Bank’s 2021 report, 32% of the population in Senegal still lacks access to electricity.

Energy infrastructure
The contract worth US $217M, will see construction of various energy infrastructures, including the deployment of 1,350 km of overhead and underground high and very high voltage electricity transmission lines. Additionally, eight extra-high voltage transformer stations will be built.
The project includes the extension of network management, with the installation of a remote control interface and communicating overhead and underground fault detection systems. The projects are expected to employ 1,000 people over the next three years.
The contract is being financed by a banking pool consisting of French and Senegalese lenders. The French side is supported by a guarantee from BPI Assurance Export, and there is a guarantee from the Senegalese Ministry of the Economy, Finance, and Planning. Local teams in Senegal will benefit from training and the transfer of know-how, with support from Vinci Energies’ French and Moroccan companies.
