Wilo Installs Africa’s First Smart Sewage Pump

In a powerful milestone for Africa’s water management sector, Wilo Group has announced the successful installation of the first-ever Wilo-Rexa SOLID-Q with Nexos Intelligence in Africa. This ground-breaking achievement took place at Saifee Park, a sophisticated gated community located in Nairobi’s lush Karen area, home to more than 3,000 residents.

This achievement signals not only technological advancement but also a transformative shift in how African cities can address their water challenges. The deployment marks a moment where smart water solutions are no longer aspirational but are being practically integrated into community infrastructure.

Why Wilo-Rexa SOLID-Q Installation Matters
The Karen area has long faced increasing pressure due to the over-reliance on limited groundwater resources and the intensifying impacts of climate change. Nairobi experiences a paradoxical situation: the rainy seasons bring intense urban flooding, while the dry seasons reveal the harsh reality of water scarcity.

This dual water crisis urgently calls for sustainable, technology-driven solutions.

That’s where the Wilo-Rexa SOLID-Q comes into play. The pump has been deployed to support a Decentralized Rainwater Reuse (DRWR) initiative in Saifee Park. This project is more than just a technological showcase—it’s a functional solution with real impact. With an impressive 20-million-liter storage capacity, the system offers a forward-thinking method of managing stormwater and reusing grey water efficiently and hygienically.

To ensure water quality, the installation includes Ultra-Filtration (UF) units for treatment, guaranteeing that reclaimed water meets safety standards for domestic and community use. The result is a holistic water management system that helps the community achieve self-sufficiency while easing pressure on the city’s municipal water infrastructure.
