Xylem opens Egypt office, plans to open manufacturing plant

US-based water solutions provider Xylem has today opened its regional office in Egypt. The new office will serve as a hub for Xylem, its partners, and customers across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

“Our Xylem Egypt local offices are officially open for business and are ready and equipped to tackle all of North and East Africa’s unique water challenges,” Mohamed Shetta, Xylem’s Country Manager for Egypt said.

The new Cairo offices will host sales, aftersales, orders, logistics, engineering, and technical support functions, and will provide enhanced levels of service, innovation, and support for current and future customers across the MENA.

Shetta pointed out that Africa has become an important market for Xylem over the past two years, with revenues touching US $95 million in 2021. The company currently has six offices in Africa, having opened a new office in Kenya recently and planning to open another in Morocco to expand and deepen its presence across the continent. The establishment of these hubs will see Xylem increase its footprint in Africa.

Xylem boasts of introducing new technologies and water solutions in Egypt’s utility market, especially for wastewater and irrigation water treatment, and national megaprojects.

According to Chetan Mistry, Xylem Africa’s Strategy and Marketing Manager, the launch of the Egypt office is a milestone for the long-running relationship between Xylem, Egypt, and the surrounding countries.

Manufacturing plant

Xylem, which operates in over 150 countries is also planning to establish a manufacturing plant in Egypt to cater to the African market. Shetta confirmed that a feasibility study is underway to assess the cost and location of the proposed plant, as well as studying the products that would be manufactured at the new plant from Xylem’s portfolio of more than 150 products.

He said that the feasibility study would be completed by end-2022.

Xylem has manufacturing sites in Italy, America, China, Poland, Dubai, India, and Sweden.
