As South Africa works to improve its power supply and energy stability, power plant maintenance has become a growing priority. A major player in this field, Werner Pumps, a leading South African manufacturer of high-pressure jetting and vacuum equipment, has reported a significant rise in demand for its vacuum trucks. These Werner Pumps vacuum trucks are critical to ensuring power plants remain efficient and clean.

According to George Jolly, National Marketing Manager at Werner Pumps, the company has already supplied five specialized vacuum trucks to three different power stations—two in Limpopo and three in Mpumalanga (spread across two plants).

“The Werner Pumps Indlovu Vacuum Truck and Impi Wet/Dry Combination Vacuum and Jetting Trucks are the most popular for power plant maintenance,” says Jolly.

These Werner Pumps vacuum trucks serve multiple purposes. The Indlovu unit is typically used for the vacuum cleaning of wet and dry fly ash from furnaces, as well as removing sludges and slurries around the plants. Meanwhile, the Combi Vac Jet truck is designed for efficient drain management within power stations.

Engineered for Heavy-Duty Power Plant Maintenance

The Indlovu units—available in both PTO-driven and independent engine variants—are purpose-built for tough tasks such as fly ash, slag, and dry bulk removal. They feature 10,000–12,500 L stainless steel tanks, dual-cyclone filters, and optional telescopic booms. These enhancements improve suction power and on-site flexibility, making the units ideal for hazardous or abrasive waste.

In contrast, the IMPI unit delivers the power of two machines in one. It combines industrial-strength jetting with powerful vacuum suction. It’s built on a customer-specified chassis and includes a tilting 12,500 L stainless steel tank, a hydraulically driven jet pump (295 L/min @ 135 bar), and a vacuum pump with 1,850 m³/hr suction capacity.

Onsite Repairs and Maintenance: A Game Changer

“One of the major advantages of Werner Pumps vacuum trucks is their low maintenance design and availability of onsite service plans,” explains Jolly. This feature has made a big impact, particularly for clients in remote regions like Limpopo.

Previously, when a vacuum truck required repairs, it had to be transported offsite—a process that took hours and disrupted operations. With Werner Pumps’ commitment to onsite maintenance, downtime is minimized, and power plants can maintain a higher level of productivity.

Expanding into Ultra-High-Pressure Cleaning Solutions

Looking to the future, Werner Pumps sees huge potential in its range of 1000-bar and 2800-bar ultra-high-pressure cleaning machines. These units could further expand the company’s footprint within South Africa’s power plant maintenance sector.

Why It Matters

Werner Pumps vacuum trucks are a powerful solution for South Africa’s ongoing effort to maintain and stabilize its power generation systems. Their adaptability, efficiency, and local manufacturing make them a preferred choice for plant operators seeking long-term value and reduced downtime.
