The government of Chad and Pan-African investment group Axian’s energy division have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to construct and operate a 100- MWp solar power plant integrated with battery storage.

The project, developed in partnership with Green Energy Solutions, will be located in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital. It will feature a 50 MWh energy storage system to enhance grid stability and ensure reliable power supply during peak demand or low sunlight conditions.

National energy strategy

The initiative also underscores the c Axian’s growing commitment to expanding renewable energy access across Africa. Once commissioned, the solar facility is expected to generate more than 180 GWh of electricity annually. This output will be sufficient to supply clean and affordable power to over 150,000 households while reducing approximately 120,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

According to Axian Energy, the project represents a significant contribution to Chad’s national strategy to increase renewable energy capacity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It also aligns with the company’s broader ambition to accelerate the continent’s energy transition through sustainable and inclusive solutions.

“This partnership between Axian Energy and Green Energy Solutions marks a key milestone in our joint efforts to promote clean energy and support Chad’s climate objectives,” the company said in a statement.

Axian Energy operates across several African countries, investing in renewable generation, transmission, and distribution projects aimed at driving energy access and resilience. The new project in Chad will not only strengthen the country’s energy mix but also create jobs, attract investment, and foster long-term socioeconomic development powered by clean energy.
