The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has officially launched access to green energy for its medium-voltage (MV) customers, marking a new chapter in Morocco’s renewable energy transition.
This initiative is part of the broader national strategy aimed at building a sustainable, low-carbon, and competitive energy system. By opening up access to renewable electricity for MV clients, ONEE is expanding its role in promoting clean energy and supporting businesses in reducing their environmental impact.
The introduction of green energy for MV clients began in early 2025, with nearly 60 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity already supplied to selected companies. These include Tanger Med Utilities in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, Saint Gobain in the Kenitra Free Zone, and Managem’s sites in Ouarzazate. This development reflects ONEE’s ongoing support for a diverse range of electricity users—starting with extra high voltage (EHV) and high voltage (HV) customers, and now extending to medium voltage clients.

Renewable energy
Since the implementation of Law 13-09 on renewable energy, Morocco has enabled over thirty large-scale industrial customers to benefit from more than 21 terawatt-hours of clean electricity. By leveraging this regulatory framework, ONEE has become a key enabler of investment in renewable projects while also helping consumers shift to greener energy sources. The agency continues to strengthen its infrastructure through major investments in electricity storage systems and flexible energy solutions to manage renewable supply fluctuations.
In addition to expanding customer access, ONEE is planning a major upgrade of the national electricity transmission network. By 2030, the organization intends to increase its annual investments fivefold, ensuring a stable and reliable grid that can handle the growing share of renewables. Through these efforts, ONEE is helping drive a more inclusive and forward-looking energy transition, empowering a wider range of users to participate in Morocco’s green future.
