Renewable Energy Forum Africa set for October in Kenya

Kenya is set to host the Renewable Energy Forum Africa (REFA) conference from October 4–6, 2023. The event is aimed at promoting sustainable energy investments across the African continent.

REFA will take place in Nairobi County at the Sarit Expo Centre and is being supported by GET.invest, a European program that mobilizes investment projects in renewable energy in developing countries.

The event is expected to attract a diverse group of attendees, including project developers, policymakers, energy utilities, regulators, institutional and private investors, corporates, and influential decision-makers in the energy sector.

The conference will feature discussions and sessions on several key topics, including Africa’s role in the global green hydrogen race, market opportunities for green hydrogen in Kenya and East Africa, financing small-scale commercial and industrial solar solutions across Africa, and e-mobility technology in Africa. More than 150 exhibitors from the global power industry will participate in the conference, showcasing their latest products and solutions in the renewable energy sector

John Van Zuylen, CEO of the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA), emphasized that the conference will encourage collaborations and facilitate investment projects in renewable energy across Africa. The abundant renewable energy resources in Africa make it an attractive destination for international investors. Máté Heisz, Director of Global Affairs at SolarPower Europe, highlighted REFA’s commitment to ensuring an efficient clean energy transition in Africa.

Njoroge, Senior Regional Manager for Asronogy in East Africa, pointed out the potential for utilizing excess geothermal energy for green hydrogen production of fertilizer, which could contribute to lowering the cost of living in Kenya.
