Construction of transmission line for Lesedi Project complete

Construction works on the transmission line, connecting the Lesedi gas to power project in Botswana with both the national grid and the regional Southern African Power Pool has been completed. Tlou Energy made the announcement and said the 66KV development marks a significant step towards enhancing energy infrastructure and security in the region.

However, it’s noted that while the transmission network is connected to the Serowe substation, further steps are required for full activation. This includes the installation of a switchgear at the substation and the completion of an additional substation in Lesedi.

Additionally, the Lesedi substation, which plays a crucial role in integrating the transmission line with Lesedi’s power generation plants, is currently at 38% completion according to Tlou Energy. The company has made progress in installing the earth mat, and the construction of the control room is underway. Additionally, gas-fired generators will be installed adjacent to the Lesedi substation on Tlou’s 100% owned land.

Tlou Energy is actively seeking funds to finalize the entire Lesedi gas to power project, aiming to activate the transmission line by mid-2024. Once completed, this project is expected to deliver electricity, contributing to energy security and affordability for consumers in Botswana and southern Africa, in line with the 100 MW Power Purchase Agreement signed with state utility Botswana Power.
