The Ehoala Solar Park in Madagascar has officially been unveiled. His Excellency Mr. Andry Rajoelina, President of Madagascar, Rio Tinto QMM and CrossBoundary Energy inaugurated the project which is set to reduce carbon emissions and embracing responsible mining practices.
The solar park is situated in Fort-Dauphin. The development was a collaboration between Rio Tinto QMM, CrossBoundary Energy, supported by various Malagasy institutions and regulators. The first phase of the project boasts 14,640 solar panels generating 8MW of power in its first phase, underscoring dedication to renewable energy adoption.

Strategic partnership
The launch of the Ehoala Solar Park solidifies the strategic partnership between Madagascar and Rio Tinto QMM, reinforcing their shared commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship as outlined in their renewed fiscal agreement. This initiative not only aims to reduce the mine’s carbon footprint but also contributes to socio-economic development in the local community through job creation and skills enhancement.
Isabelle Wabete, Managing Director of QMM, emphasized the project’s alignment with Rio Tinto’s decarbonization goals and its commitment to sustainability and climate action in Madagascar. Richard Stanford, Chief Technical Officer of CrossBoundary Energy, hailed the project’s significance in combating climate change and advancing renewable energy solutions.
President Andry Rajoelina praised the initiative as a pivotal step towards enhancing Madagascar’s resilience to climate challenges and affirmed the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable industrial practices and protecting the nation’s environment.
