The dam will also supply water to Kahuro, Kiharu, Maragua, Kandara, Kigumo, and parts of Gatanga sub-counties. President William Ruto announced highlighted the dam’s capacity to supply 15,000 cubic meters of water daily, sourced from the confluence of rivers Irati and Maragua. The management of the reservoir, boasting a capacity of 800,000 cubic meters, was entrusted to the Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (Muwasco).

President Ruto also directed the Water Cabinet Secretary Zacharia Njeru to hand over the project to the Murang’a County Government and Muwasco, thereby resolving previous disputes over management rights between Muwasco and Murang’a South Water and Sanitation Company (Muswasco).

Governor Irungu Kang’ata was tasked with ensuring the efficient utilization of the dam for the benefit of the Maragua people, emphasizing its significance in mitigating water challenges in semi-arid areas and enhancing hygiene and irrigation farming in Murang’a south.
