Kenya Power kicks off Rapid Results Initiative

The Kenya Power company has initiated a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to address a backlog in electricity meter connections.

CEO Joseph Siror, revealed the report and said the primary goal of the RRI is to clear pending connections within 90 days and connect more than 320,000 customers. Currently, there are 236,924 pending new connections. The initiative kicked off with 10,759 meters installed for new connections.

Rapid Results Initiative (RRI)

This initiative comes in response to complaints from Kenyan citizens regarding connectivity issues and the cost of electricity. Additionally, in August, there was a power blackout in many parts of the country, which Kenya Power attributed to a fault in one of its generation plants. An earlier update from Kenya Power had indicated that the failure of electrical services was due to a system disturbance leading to a loss of bulk power supply.

The delays in connecting new customers were attributed to challenges in procuring critical materials in the past. However, these challenges have been addressed, and the company is now receiving meters to expedite the clearance of pending connections. The access rate of power for urban areas stands at 100%, while rural Kenya stands at 65%. The national electrification strategy target aims to achieve universal access at an acceptable quality of service level.
