Morocco has announced plans to launch tenders for the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline project. The move is part of the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines’ (ONHYM) action plan.
The tenders to be launched in 2025, will focus on the pipeline sections within Morocco’s territory, with the first phase covering Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal. This ambitious 5,600-kilometer pipeline aims to connect 16 countries along the Atlantic coast, ultimately integrating with the Morocco-Europe Gas Pipeline and the European gas network.
The pipeline is expected to benefit over 340 million people across its route, promoting economic integration and co-development in Africa while addressing energy security challenges in both Africa and Europe.

Sustainable development
Countries, including Nigeria, Senegal, Mauritania, and Cote d’Ivoire, have signed agreements with Morocco to support the project. These collaborations underscore the shared vision of economic and energy integration.
A private company will oversee the construction, operation, and maintenance of the project, ensuring a coordinated approach to its execution. Highlighted as a “project for peace” by King Mohammed VI, the NMGP reflects Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development and regional collaboration. The project’s initial phase will involve agreements on gas transport and infrastructure development in Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal, with further phases extending to other participating nations.
The NMGP represents a landmark initiative, reinforcing Morocco’s role as a key player in advancing Africa’s energy landscape while fostering international partnerships for sustainable development. For Africa the project will enhanced access to natural gas will bolster industrialization, energy production, and economic growth in participating countries. In Europe the project offers a diversified energy supply, complementing existing energy networks and addressing current energy crises.
