Water requirements

With a daily capacity of 300 m3, the new desalination plant will meet 100% of the water requirements for the Red Sea Diving Safari – Marsa Shagra complex throughout the year. The water produced by the plant will be supplied to the hotel’s guests through a distribution network.

Additionally, the desalinated water can be utilized for irrigation purposes to address water stress and enhance crop yields. KarmWater states that the salinity of this water is 42% better than other conventional water sources in the Red Sea governorate.

The Marsa Alam desalination plant is currently powered by solar energy to the extent of 30%. KarmSolar’s Marsa Alam Solar Grid supplies this clean energy, and there are plans to increase the solar power contribution to 100% within the next decade.

The CEO of KarmSolar, Ahmed Zahran, explains that this development aligns with their vision of becoming a multi-utility provider. Previously, the solar grid in Marsa Alam supplied electricity to customers in the area, and now it will also serve as a reliable and cost-effective source of water for them.
